As we know, Univision is an American company, catering to a Spanish speaking audience.

Below are some American cars with a Spanish name. Which of these embodies Univision?

Kinja'd!!!

The Ford Fiesta, the small but nimble one.

Kinja'd!!!

The El Camino - the utilitarian but still fun one.

Kinja'd!!!

The Dodge Durango - the bit boring but capable enough rugged one.

Kinja'd!!!

The Chevy Nova - the wild card, that could be either complete garbage, or with a bit of work will rock your socks off.

Kinja'd!!!

The El Dorado - the luxurious one.

Kinja'd!!!

The Chrysler Pacifica - the soccer mom mobile.

What else did I miss? What direction do we see Univision taking us?

Edit: something weird is going on with the formatting here.. where did that question between the El Camino and Durango come from? I don’t see it when I edit the post.

That’s not really an American car though... and what does Jetta mean in Spanish?

You’re not following the rules man...

I’m not exactly sure what that is, but I don’t think it’s made by an American company...

Wait-what do you think Pacifica and Nova mean in Spanish? And breaking up no va doesn’t count, that was never the name’s intention

Yea see that’s a Mexican brand. That’ll come into play when Univision sells Gawker to Carlos Slim.

Oh, and I missed the American part. I was excited about the car designed and produced in a Spanish speaking nation.

I’d say the Fiesta. An honest, interesting car for the everyman.

Yea I was expecting to be called out on the Nova.

Pacifica is almost “pacificar”, which seems to mean to pacify...

(though I don’t actually speak Spanish)

Pacifica means “peaceful” as a female adjective in Spanish.

Nova is “New” in Latin as far as I know, has no meaning in Spanish at all.

Don’t know it they sold these on the States, but Designed and Built in México.

The Mastretta was a huge huge failure; managerial, design and production failure. We don’t talk about such things anymore.

The new kids on the block are Vuhl, with the 05 and in a refreshing turn of events they seem to be actually delivering cars.

Aztek is not a word in Spanish.

Neither is Aztec for that matter.

You’re looking for Azteca.

Actually they did call them that here in Mexico when they were around, apparently (the ones sold here) were quite slow, despite the sporty pretensions Chevy tried to bestow upon them.

So No Va (translating more to something like It Doesn’t Go)

Almost everything on the list is a proper name.

I guess I can’t think of one that is a proper Spanish word.

The Jetta (Yeta) in some spanish countries means “A person who is always unlucky”, so it’s sold either as Vento or Bora in most of Latin America. Jeta also can mean face, mouth, back of the head, rascal among others...

Same thing with the Mitsubishi Pajero which means Wanker, so it’s called Montero over here.

The Ford Lobo.

Kinja'd!!!

Or perhaps the Chevy Cheyenne.

Kinja'd!!!

Or, if we’re feeling wacky, the late model Dodge Ramcharger, which was a cross between a Durango and a Caravan.
